WASTELESS DESIGNER FASHION
Elegant and feminine, yet minimalist and understated: the German label Natascha von Hirschhausen makes high-quality fashion that is radically sustainable - and is produced completely without waste in Berlin.
While still a student of fashion design, Natascha von Hirschhausen already dealt with the topic of sustainability, which also became the subject of her bachelor's thesis. After attending Bangladesh in the course of her master's degree at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, her awareness of this issue grew even greater. "In addition to the realities of human life, I was particularly struck by the amount of rubbish that is generated there. I knew beforehand that the cutting of clothing alone produced about 20% waste and that overproduction was a big problem. But to see a country being used as a garbage bin for our western civilization - to put it in a pointed metaphor - repelled me," explains the designer.

The solution: After her journey, Natascha von Hirschhausen developed a cutting system that minimizes the amount of waste, i.e. the amount of fabric that is disposed of as waste, to less than one percent. A real innovation - and at the same time the foundation of the label Natascha von Hirschhausen founded in 2016.
But how does the label prevent the elaborately produced pieces from being mucked out again after a few seasons and finally ending up in the garbage? By exclusively offering a timeless style that doesn't go out of fashion easily! At first glance, Natascha von Hirschhausen's creations tend to be understated and make use of a reduced, selected colour palette. The designs are minimalist and elegant. Modern, straight cuts combined with artistic draping and skilful details such as slits. The collections are always wonderfully feminine - the focus is clearly on the woman and her body.

Natural, compostable fabrics - completely plastic-free
"It was also important to me to use exclusively natural materials that are checked for ecological and social sustainability along the entire value chain - for every component of the garment," says von Hirschhausen. That's why all materials are completely compostable and, of course, plastic-free. However, the value chain is not only checked for ecological standards, but also for social ones.
Speaking of social standards: Every item of the label is produced in the company's own studio in Berlin - usually made to order to avoid overproduction. More control is not possible!
